Well, a lot actually has happened since I last wrote, I’ve just been too lazy to actually write.  I’m basically done with my classes now, as I dropped my final one because it was just…ridiuclous. Masters work for an undergraduate ELECTIVE? No thanks.

So, earlier this week I stayed at Vanessa’s house in Stockholm and we worked out our final paper for “Image, Identity & New Media”. I’m really pleased with how it turned out! If we get anything less than an A I’m going to be super upset.  But, it wasn’t all work and no play…well it kind of was but haha.  Anyway, we went to the park with her son and it was actually a lot of fun. He’s opened up to me a lot compared to a week or so ago when I went to visit her. So, while Vanessa talked with her friend I just took Oscar around to see some of the animals. He’s really a well-behaved kid and quite amusing haha. But, a strange thing about Sweden is that they have a petting zoo at the park and anyone can go! No paying to go pet and see the chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, etc. It’s strange~! But, so nice. Another thing I noticed that there were lots of toys by a sandbox and no one seemed around so i was like, “Why would someone just leave their stuff?” and Vanessa told me that it’s community toys. Kids can play with them there but they leave them there at the end of the day. I know if those same toys were at a park at home they would be jacked that night.

Aaand now onto better stories! Last night was Valborg (April 30th) Find out more here. I’ve never seen so many people in one place in all my life, especially not in Uppsala. Basically Uppsala is infamous for being THE place to be for Valborg, so how lucky for me to live here? We planned on the 29th to get up at 8 for Champagne breakfast, which Sanna and I did but everyone else slept in or started making it to the kitchen around 8:30~9 which was fine. Even Jonatan came back from Katorsgatan to be there. Keke~ Fun.

After breakfast Sanna, Jonatan and I walked to ICA Maxi and Systembolaget to pick up some stuff for the day. I even bought a little blue blanket to sit on which by the end of the day was not such a good idea because the fuzzies got all over my shirt when I wrapped it around me at night because it was chilly. Cruel!

After that we headed to Ekonomikum Parken which was crowded something serious! There was hardly any place to get, so we picked one of the side areas which hadn’t been claimed yet~ We could still see grass there! Woohoo.  Sanna’s friend also showed up so we hung around there for awhile and drank a little. But, we were hungry by then as well, since it was around lunch time. Sooo all of us got out things and went to Pinocchio to pick up some pizza and kebab. On the way there though we passed a place that was selling balloons. Quite amusing little place, I had been wondering where everyone kept getting these random pegasus and ladybug balloons. So Sanna’s friend bought a blue elephant and off we went to Pinocchio.  After that we migrated with our food to Sanna’s friend’s friend’s apartment place(?) and sat outside and ate our food and just enjoyed the sun. It was surprisingly clear yesterday which made for a great day in my opinion! 😀

Theeen we eventually migrated to the river, which is where we should’ve gone all along! I love sitting by the river haha.

Unfortunately all of the stores and stuff are closed so we went from the river allll the way to the train station just to get coffee and use the restroom. It stinks that you have to pay to use restrooms SOMETIMES here, or that there aren’t just little places around to use them, especially on a day like this. The queues were heug. When we left Jonatan went to get some coffee and Sanna and I went back to the river, kind of sucks that I definitely could feel the blisters on the balls of my feet by then because of all the walking that day. But anyway, before we got to our spot at the river again, Jonatan somehow caught up with us. How he managed to go get coffee and still catch up with us is beyond me. Speed zombie is what we’ve decided. Speaking of which, that was definitely the convo of the day. I think Jonatan and I spent a good 10 mins during the whole day just on zombie talk. Haahaha~

Anyway we drank a bit more, chatted and even Suyin showed up! 😀 So after that we walked back to Flogsta and met with some corridormates and all that fun stuff. I noticed then that I had a lovely sunburn on my arms and since I was wearing half-sleeves it will be…attractive Im sure. Hopefully not too dark. Also got burnt a bit on my face, but whatever! So we all hung around until we were allll so tired that we had to go pass out in our beds.

Now I need to get Sanna to send me her pictures from the day so I can upload them too. 😀

I don’t know how I forgot to write about mine and Lisa’s birthday party! We had one on the 14th of March to celebrate both mine (March 2nd) and her (March 7th) birthdays!

It wasa lot of fun and basically a birthday party for 5 year olds, because we didn’t want to get old! Lisa and Suyin whipped up a lot of tastey things for fika, chokladbollar will forever be the best desserty food. Aaand Suyin’s mousse-chocolate-raspberry things looked like candles..it was amusing. So it was definitely random and Lisa’s friend Anna was there who reminds me so much of Renee…well by appearance anyway, not in personality. It was kind of creepy! Aaand Josefin, Jenny and Peter were also there. 😀 Jenny got me this annoying pink bird that I bothered everyone with aaand Lisa and Peter got me this adorable cute pink bear <333 Loved them~ So much pink!

We then proceeded to play childish games like pin the tail on the donkey, crazy dangerous chocolate game, and we had a fish pond later that evening as well.  Suyin actually used the Flip video camera my mom got me for Xmas to record some of the antics. Here’s part of pin the tail on the donkey and the dangerous chocolate game.

This game basically involved rolling dice. If you got a 6, then you had to put on a scarf, hat, mittens and use a fork and knife to cut out a piece of chocolate. But, you had to do this while everyone else rolled the dice as well. So, if someone else got a 6, you had to stop and hand over the item to them. This goes on until the chocolate is gone~

We watched Open Season 2, which I must say was quite hilarious! I was surprised, I didn’t watch the first one…but this one was amusing. I could see Hallie liking a movie kind of like that haha. In the evening we also played some Mario Kart and watched Melodifestivalen, which is basically the show which chooses Sweden’s contestant for Eurovision which begins in May. Eurovision is KIND OF like a full on Europe version of American Idol, except Eurovision has been around longer…I bet AI was stolen from it. Anyway, this really famous (I guess?) opera singer won by singing a french song. Very strange, considering she will be representing Sweden.  It was a really amusing show. Throughout it though we were being silly and talking, eating candy from the “fish pond”, throwing these balloons filled with flour that had faces on them.  Speaking of which, I exploded one of those on me. It was sad. SUPER SAD.

=> Some random antics during Melodifestivalen. 😀

And if you wanted to see the Eurovision contest winner go here:

On Saturday I plaaanned to meet up with Peter in Stockholm before he went back to Blekinge~ He had like a 6 hour ferry-train layover so wandering around commensed. 😀 It sucked though because I was super late, I hate trains on weekends and holidays. I was over an hour late, but I would have been on time if Peter didn’t say he was getting in later. Tsktsk~

So, I eventually got there and after much texting we decided to meet at the big hole in the floor. At first I thought it was the one by where gimpy pigeon was, but then I remebered the “main” big hole in the floor in centralstation that was next to the Christmas tree at well…Christmas.  Anyway~! I met up with him, which is funny because I saw him first by his dorky hat and he was facing the wrong way so…you know, I kicked his leg.  Because that is the Nicole-way to greet people! 😀

Through most of this we found out we were directionally challenged and even went to look at that stupid map mom and I looked at. No good! The best thing about this was…it wasn’t awkward or strange at all, at least not to me.  I was completely comfortable and normal.  Rambled and naturally ungraceful. Everything was very…normal!  For awhile we mostly went into random goofy stores after finding “Checkered Square” looking for a gift for his sister or something, which he never ended up buying! Tsktsk~ We went to the SF Bookstore, which actually wasn’t all science fiction. They had some cute phonestraps in there, which would have been nice to know before I bought 3 in Scotland. =_=;  We also went into a store with a different assortment of swords and other…things. Like dream catchers and very uh…suggestive statues. I mean honestly, who would buy a statue like that…? HONESTLY!

I think what I learned from going into these stops is that Iam more of a klutz than I thought, or maybe Stockholm just has random bumps in the ground. Yeah. That’s it. 🙂

Anyway! We were getting hungry, so I decided to call Emil since he should be up by then, probably…right?  Haha, he was, but only for 30 mins.! Sooo, while we waited for him to get ready, we went to a little cafe and had yummy caaake. Cake that is so dense…it’s so tiny, but makes you way too full! And it’s chocolatey~ Yumyumyum~  Mucho dorky convos happened and I saw his Svenska Spel ID which made me laugh cause he had goofy hair. GOOFY I tell you. Like…Bill Gates dorky.

After an hour we called Emil and met him at the emo stairs. Both of these boys are shorter than I thought I might add~ Or maybe my shoes gave me some leverage. 8D Emil is definitly spacey and I didn’t really know what to say by then, so it got quieter. So sad~ We went to the food court due to Emil’s idea. BAD CHOICE. It was crowded and just…ahhh~! Think Tuttle’s food court…compact and with more people and underground. It was like a school dining hall kind of. x_X

So, we talked more and left and wandered more. I like that…haha~ Aaaand then we had to see Peter off to Blekinge at 6:20 something.  Sooo after Peter left,my train wasn’t going to be there until 7:11.  So! Emil and I walked and talked about randomnesss…like the PM getting shot on the street we were walking on, his favorite place to get spring rolls, etc etc~ Raaandomness until I had to go catch my train. 😦

So yes! I hope we play this game again and WHEN we do, it should be nicer out and I’ll take more pictures. I knew I would get in that mind set of only taking pictures a little bit. I should stop caring and just snapsnasnap!!! So yeah! Emil is in Stockholm so I can prob. go bug him whenever I guess aaand Peter is in Visby now sooo that’s closer than Blekinge so uh…yeah! I expect more adventures before I leave~  If it doesn’t happen, oh well…I’ll be back. >=D

I have a hitting problem as well~ But they kept teasing, they deserved any bruises they got. ;p

I know I forgot to post a lot of what happened on Saturday, but it’s 1am now and I’m sleeeepy and have class tomorrow. :<

After class today I got a monthly bus card, since I have a feeling I won’t be walking or biking in ice/snow.  It’s a bit chaotic and I think the card will easily pay off itself. >>  So yeah, I got that down in town with Per and Suyin.

After that I met up with Ingrid and we got some food at Cappucino Cafe, since Linnea was full.  I had some yummy pasta with salad that I couldn’t finish cause my stomach was like aaargh. After that we went and looked for shoes and pants, I actually ended up getting a pair of jeans and black socks at KappAhl.  I really like that store for some reason, even though this is my first purchase from there haha.  The jeans were pretty nice, they fit nicely if I don’t gain anymore weight rofl.  I don’t have to wear a belt with them, which is so strange for me now haha~

After a bit of shopping we went back to Kantorsgatan where Ingrid lives and hung out a bit.  The girl in her room before left some clothes and stuff, which I took.  Finally someone who is my size? Heck yes!  She left rain boots of some kind that are luckily my size, a hoodie, a white H&M long sleeve shirt, and a super swedish shirt for a pub here called Harry’s, lucky for me there is a bar back at Purdue called Harry’s as well. Amuuusing~  So yeah, I snagged that stuff, like free thrifting haha.  But there were other things that she left that were just…weird…like a razor and uhh…what we think is lubricant cream stuff, we were trying to figure out what it was by reading the back and then we came across the word “kondom” and were like “OH MAAAN~ *washes hands!*”  haha it was kind of amusing.  XD

After that we watched Shrek 2 with swedish subtitles, because we could.  We were going to go to Värmlands and club for a bit, but it started getting pretty late and instead we tried to learn the Uppsala-nollning dance version thingy to Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”.  It was semi-successful, we’ll have to observe more next time we’re out at a club. Or Ingrid said she may just have a friend she knows who knows it do it, and record it.  Then we’ll know, and we’ll rock it out too. XD

And to finish the night off I slid about a meter on the ice, without falling though, leaving a nice mark in the snow.  Oh man, it’s only November!!

Well, once again I’ve been neglecting this journal.  I like to have long and meaningful posts, but I don’t know…I really should just write, regardless of how entertaining it is.

Well, my professor is in New York for the week or something to discuss the election (he should’ve taken me back! Though I have nothing i really want to do in NY so… lol) so my classes were all canceled/re-arranged and I’ve had the past week off basically.  It’s amusing because Purdue was also on their October break.  But, mines longer. Bwahaha~  I should have been thinking about my project and reading more for the class, but I’ve been lacking motivation to do so.  The great thing about American universities, is that generally you can attend a lecture and get most of the information you need.  In Sweden, most of the information you need is in the book, and you have to pull it out and figure it out yourself.  The professor will do some kind of commentary, but really there isn’t really anything new brought to the table in my opinion.  I’ve been a note-taking fiend in my classes, but that obviously doesn’t help, because I got a C in my first class.  I haven’t had a C at all since I’ve been in college, so it’s kind of disheartening.

Well, today I planned to meet up with Ingrid on Tuesday and we’re going to plan a trip to Lappland, Kiruna and all to do all the northerny activities like possible dog-sledding and fun things like that!  I’m mostly excited to see the northern lights.  If I get up there, and I don’t get to see them for the whole trip, I’ll probably be really disappointed because that’s what I want to see the most.  We’re thinking of going either late November or earlier December.  I’m already going to Scotland in early November, so I’m hoping early December for Lappland-adventures.

Well, today I went to Gästrike-Hälsinge (GH) nation with Per, Suyin, Peter, and Josefin.  I was debating for a bit this afternoon if I wanted to go, because I’ve felt pretty lazy lately.  But, I sucked it up and decided to just go. I’m happy I did, because I enjoyed myself, like I always seem to do. :p

It mostly consisted of sitting around talking and taking goofy pictures and what not.  Peter mocked me and my waaater, what’s wrong with my water?  Just because everyone has acquired the taste for beer, and I haven’t. Maaan~  At least Suyin stood up for me and my water!  Though, I know Peter was just kidding, so it doesn’t bother me.  Not like real beer-pressure or anything. lol~ I personally love GH’s fries.  So yummy, but I’m sure they’re super fatty too! I don’t want to gain back weight I’ve lost maaan~

Josefin wanted a different kind of beer so eventually we left to go to Gotlands nation.  Per had other plans to go to another party (which he invited me to ❤ XD But that would prob. be awkward, don’t know anyone except him lol) sooo we split off and the rest of us went to Gotlands.

Playing with wax @ Gotlands Nations pub

Playing with wax @ Gotlands Nation's pub

I didn’t realize where Gotlands was until we got there.  It’s such a cozy little pub, I think I had the most fun playing with the candle wax like a 5 year old and learning how to say “Shut the hell up!” in Swedish, “Håll käften för helvete” (or something) because there were these annoying loud people who decided to show up there.  So sad for us!  We left there and went to Smålands Nation because it was so loud.

At Smålands I ended up trying to order ice cream in Swedish, and it would have worked but they didn’t have any ice cream left so the guy kept saying, “We don’t have ice cream anymore.” in Swedish and after like 4 “vaaa?”‘s and him repeating himself I eventually said in English, “Oh, you don’t have ice cream?’ and he was alll, “Lol. yeah, We don’t have anymore ice cream.” To which I ordered “Ostkaka” which is cheesecake, which is NOTHING like American Cheesecake.  It’s really rich and uhm Peter says it has like pretty much no cheese in it, but it has lots of eggs? Lol~  I don’t know.  It was alright, half of it was super good, the other half not so much.  I couldn’t finish it all either.  Either because I was stuffed or because it was so rich.  Josefin also let me try some of her drink.  It was Raspberry-Licorice flavored something or other.  So I had a sip and to my surprise it wasn’t too bad.  It didn’t taste anything like alcohol and I was more surprised that I wasn’t grossed out by the licorice flavor.  I hate licorice usually.  Like black jelly beans.  I finally found out who they make those nasty things for; the swedes!

After that we all ended up going home.  I took the bus back to Flogsta with Josefin and Peter and at my stop I went to the door and the bus driver shut it on me!!! And since it was a double-bus I tried to yell, “HEEEY!!!” but no one heard me, Peter and Josefin tried too. Lol~  It was okay though, I just got off at Flogsta Centrum which is right infront of the ICA, so not that far away or anything.  I needed to work off some of that food from the night anyway.  :p

Taking it back to a few days ago, I went over to Ingrid’s in Kantorsgatan, which I took the bus to get to because it was like…way over there. But, anyway I went over there and met up with some of her other friends and we’ve become the “Baking Nation” though possibly a different name soon because I think we’ll do more than bake.  But anyway, we had a lot of delicious food that Ingrid made and also that Miriam and Judith made as well.  Everything was really delicious, which is almost always the case when I don’t make it haha~

After the gathering Britta and Ingrid went to SNerikes to dance and such, while Miriam, Judith and myself went back home.  They live in Rackersbergatan (sp?) so they waited by the bus stop with me until my bus came, which I thought was nice ❤  Both of them are super nice girls, and I can’t wait to hang out again haha~ Miriam is from Germany and Judith is from Austria, so both of them somehow made me remember junior year of HS and our trip to Germany and Austria. Fun times~ 🙂 Fun sober times. Haha.

Jumping ahead a bit, on Wednesday I ran into Suyin and Per in the street.  Both of them are in my class so we chatted for a few minutes and exchanged emails, numbers, and all that fun stuff!  It was funny when I got home, Suyin and I talked on MSN as if we’ve known each other for years haha~  So, the next day we all sat together in class and Suyin invited us to go get fika with her friends, sadly Per couldn’t come, but I went! 😀  So I met her friends: Peter (who reminds me of Jim!) and Jenny~  They were so welcoming and I didn’t feel awkward at all, I really really enjoyed hanging out with them!  Suyin paid for my cake, since they all insisted that I eat haha~ And ice cream is free with cake! I was so surprised! I’m really happy I met Suyin, it’s almost like she’s adopted me haha~ I’m her little international student loool! We made plans to go over to Peter and Lisa’s (Peter’s girlfriend) apartment for a BBQ the next day (Friday).

After much talking and amusing stories, Suyin had to catch the train (or was it bus?) back to Stockholm and I walked back to Flogsta with Jenny and Peter since they live in the little apartments under the tall buildings I’m in.  Peter took us through the scenic route, so we went through little neighborhoods and such that I hadn’t seen before. It was so pretty!  When we got to Flogsta they told me to continue up a path since they were at their apartments.  Aaand I trusted them so I did, and I ended up coming in through an enterance near building 12 and 13, I didn’t even know there was an enterance there!

Anyway! Yesterday was the “BBQ” that didn’t really happen haha.  Suyin told me ahead of time that it was just going to be goofing off and movie times (which is fine with me!) so I ate some oatmeal; lost track of time and was like 10 minutes late meeting her at the ICA. @_@ I really shouldn’t start talking to Jonatan in the kitchen when I’m on limited time. Haha~ I always tend to drag him into convos that amuse me. XD

So, we bought some candies at the ICA.  I found out the night before that Suyin really likes red vines, I had no idea what that was so I google’d it and it’s just TWIZZLERS.  Little does she know my mom loves those as well, so maybe mom can send up a package and I can give her some haha~  She also liked some other candy, but I can’t remember what it was.  I just know twizzlers was one of them.  Anyway, she got some candy rope and I got some Ahlgrens Bilar, which are candy cars…I guess they’re marshmallows (nothing like marshmallows though!) and a CHOCOOOLATE bar with some m&m like candies inside.

Then we walked over to Peter and Lisa’s apartment.  I was so amazed when I walked in! I’m so used to seeing crappy looking student housing things, very bland and very basic, but their apartment looked like a real home.  I can’t really describe it, but it felt SO nice because it seemed like a home…where you know people live.  Haha that sounded kind of redundant, but whatever.  We had some blueberry muffin flavored coffee (yeah you heard me! It wasn’t too bad, It smelled like blueberries but the taste wasn’t very blueberry like haha) and we watched Music & Lyrics first.  After that we watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, or is it Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Whichever the new one is with Johnny Depp!  I realized while watching that it could have been so much better if at least ONE time they would do the original Oompa Loompa song!

Suyin; who adopted me! XD

Suyin; who adopted me! XD

After that we watched a bit of Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno! :O  They weren’t super new, but only maybe about a week old! I was so surprised to see them on tv, with swedish subtitles haha~  We all talked a bit, and there may be a trip to Scotland in the future!  Lisa lived there for 3 months so she said she could show us all around~  I’m surprised they’re letting me in on this if they do it. 😮  It would be so much fun!!

Watched the closing ceremonies of the olympics today with Melissa as we ate some swedish meatballs and ketchup. Heinz ketchup that is. And yes, it does taste pretty much the same as the US one, but it seems it’s not liked as much here. Haha~ Probably because it doesn’t taste like tomatoes, but it’s still delicious.  Also, watching the ceremonies and such on TV here is much nicer than watching it at home, because the Swedish commentators don’t really make comments when music and performances are going on.  I really like that.

Today the group of us who met (minus Hannes) got together and made delicious food for dinner. We all prepared a little something and brought it. Everyone’s dish except for Genevieve’s contained some form of pasta. It’s clear, everyone loves pasta. Melissa and I worked together on our pasta thing, we also added swedish meatballs to it. We found out it probably would have been better without them. The sauce was amaaazing~

I had to leave our gathering a bit earlier because at 9 we had a corridor meeting, going over who does kitchen duty, where our shelves are in the fridges, etc etc~ We talked and had some coffee and cake and uh..chocolate balls. Lol. Uhm, it was yummy, but Jesper said that whoever is incharge of kitchen duty will also be in charge of making fika for our Sunday meetings. I’m scared, because I can’t make delicious things, and I’ve never made coffee either haha. I can make chocolate balls though, so they can eat those, yea?

After that I hung out in the living space a bit and talked with everyone. In the end it kind of ended up being me, Texas, Alexander, Aleksandra, and a chinese guy (I didn’t catch his name~). It was really a bit amusing, both Texas and Alexander and a bit funny, though slightly inappropriate. :p It was amusing~
